Saree: run errands easily... Georgette saree. Choli: Magenta sleeveless. Btw.. had to got to office suddenly for couple of hours, so went the way I was. First pic is from office lobby.
Story: I just finished typing email to my kid and hit send (will talk about this in another post). Ok... back to our cholifriends..
It was not supposed to be a busy day so after workout picked a simple Saree comfy to run errands. Although my original choice was different I ended up draping this.. wondering.. "is pink really for girls"? (..and is blue for boys?) Why not red instead? Meaning.. I am not a big fan of everything pink now, neither was I in childhood.
If I look around today anything pink is stereotyped to feminine kind. It is an assumption that is marketed so much that it almost became real (same with blue and boys!). It's like telling a dog that it's a cat million times so the dog actually thinks it's a cat. Pink, princess, pretty ..what is happening around? Where is the white for peace, red for strength , green for life, blue for tranquility and much more that actually girls and women are made of?
Glad my parents never thought letting me play with Barbie was priority.. I don't even know which dolls I played with. Perhaps none. I certainly would not have wanted my young mind to think that a pretty princess should wait for her prince to come and away her away. Comm'on Gal!!! Wake up and get going, you could do better!!. You need nobody except yourself to "sway away". My room paint (thankfully) was never pink, neither were my shoes, socks, undies, ribbons, clips, water cup, paper plate,, and so on... it's definitely a money minting color !! I am not against pink (it's just a color like million others), so dont get me wrong, I am against the perception world has yet again created for us... and many fell trap to it!
I feel very strongly about it. I feel we should not let our younger generation to get wrong stereotypes engraved in their learning minds. That's a disaster and path to failure.
So today as I wore the "pink" it's not because I am all girly cosy dreamy princess. It's just because this one was handy, lying around and serves my purpose today just like another day another color would do. Duh.
Here are some lines I love...
"You should know you're beautiful just the way you are,
And you don't have to change a thing, the world could change its heart,
No scars to your beautiful, we're stars and we're beautiful.
No better you than the you that you are,
No better life than the life we're living
No better time for your shine, you're a star.."
Disclaimer: if I unintentionally hurt your (or your child's) sentiments forgive me please. Truly. Honestly.
